The Comic Book, 2020
86 pages
The Comic Book explores,a series of spaces in Saigonese alleyways through the form of a graphic novel. It builds up subjective views which originate from my own captured observations. The main aim of this narrated exploration is to showcase a series of essential elements of the alleyways' appearance that I discovered through a series of visual experiments through my research.
The Comic Book is not exactly the graphic novel that gives answers but it gives rise to questions. It demands a lot of attention and reflection from the reader. The reader should allow the images to simply flow over him instead of trying to force it into a straight narrative. The story loops back upon itself in a constant flow that revives the space and its experience. Experience is the pivotal word. This is a book to experience rather than to understand. It is a reflection, not only of how a city can be perceived, but also on how it can be told.
